Chapter 7: Sava Sprints
ok..i'm really slow in blogging.
Sava Sprints was on 10th and 11th Oct respectively.
We took part in 2 categories- Inter Bank and Inter Corporate Mixed.
For the Inter Bank event, we came in 2nd. That sounds nice..not until i tell u the complete truth.
truth is..there were only 2 participating teams. stanchart and ocbc. since the organisers weren't able to attract any more corporate bank teams but die die had to carry on with the event, they still held it anyway.
it was 2 heats to determine the winner. basically just clock the timing of the 2 heats and the team with the fastest combined timing won.
we sent a boat of 10-- 6 men, 4 women. whilst our competitor had a full boat of men. reason why we cldnt send a full boat of men down was coz we are short of men's rower for this race.
for the 1st heat, we stuck close and though we came in behind em, we were only 1.5 sec behind.
for the 2nd heat, we were 3sec behind them. they emerged as clear winners and we congratulated them!
at this very juncture, i have to update u abt something extremely memorable. i was picked to be the drummer for the 2nd heat for the inter bank event. damn happy can?
its amazing tt at 53kg and 1.6m, im considered one of the smallest built in the team! woohoo..
i'm serious. i get alot of '你哪里会大只。。你其实很小只啊！' comment. whenever i hear tt i grin sheepishly and secretly feel gd. then i think to myself.."what abt lijun baby? if i'm considered small, then lijun baby is like..malnutrition?" :p
anw im juz glad to have the opportunity to drum and i think i was like zee in her yr 1 regatta when she got abit siao. its really not an ez job to drum. i came up and had quite a few bruises on the side of the knees as a result of 'kiap-ing' e drum.
as for the Inter Corporate Mixed event, we formed a team with JTC rec club, aka JTCRC for short. it was a combined effort and we managed to make it to the repecharge where we eventually got eliminated and cldnt proceed on to the semi.
It was overall a fun experience. Felt quite gd each time i see familiar faces like raine, rang, qianyi, joanna, karine, christie, sarah ching.
liked the feeling of surge. and adrenaline.
oh, and congrats to our 后浪 who really 推得很大力 and even till today when we tell pple which team we were from, they kinda have that particular nod, followed by the "oohh so u were frm nus.."
