Breakfast at McDonald's
got tiz from my church bulletin..enjoy~
The last project for my Sociology class before we graduate is called "Smile". We had to go out and smile at 3 pple and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everone and say hello anyway, so i thot tiz wld be a piece of cake, literally. Soon aft we were assigned to the project, my husband, youngest son, and i went out to McDonald's one morning for breakfast.
We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone ard began to back away, n den even my husband did. i did not move an inch..an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as i turned to c y they had moved. As i turned ard i smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, n there standing behind me were 2 poor homeless men. As i looked down at the short gentleman close to me, he was "smiling". His beautifyl sky-blue eyes were full of God's light as he searched for acceptance. He said, "Gd day" as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. e 2nd man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his fren. I realised e 2nd man was mentally challenged n e blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. i held my tears as i stood there wif them.
e young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss" becoz tt was all they cld afford. (if they wanted to sit in the restaurant n warm up, they had to buy smtg). He juz wanted to b warm.
Then i really felt it--the compulsion was so great i almost reached out and embrace e little man with blue eyes. That is when i noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me 2 more breakfast meals on a separate tray.
I then walked ard the corner to the table tt e man had chosen as a resting spot. i put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, "thank u". I leaned over, began to pat his hand n said, "i did not do this for u. God is here working thru me to give u hope." I started to cry as i walked away to join my husband and son. When i sat down my husband smiled at me and said, "tt's y God gave u to me..to give me hope." We held hands for a moment n at tt time, we knew tt only becoz of the Grace tt we had been given, were we able to give.
tt day showed me the pure light of God's sweet love. I returned to college on the last evening of class, with tiz story in hand. i turned in 'my project' n the instructor read it. then she looked up at me n said, 'Can i share tiz?' I slowly nodded as she got the attention of e class.
She began to read n tt is when i knew tt we as human beings n being part of God share tiz nd to heal pple n to b healed. In my own way i had touched e pple at McDonald's: my husband, son, instructor, n every soul tt shared e clsasroom on the last night i sent as a college student. I graduated wif one of e biggest lesson i wld ever learn: unconditional acceptance
Love pple n use things; not love things n use pple.
i cant believe i cried when i read it.
