trg camp
eh, got quite alot of things to say la.
my first time planning a camp, quite a newbie actually. everything boiling down frm meals, to transport, to activities[hah e-v-i-l], to accomodation. yah basically every aspect. even b4 the camp itself, was ald gg back to sch often to settle all the stuff
day 1
a super long day. met at 9am sdba for trg. it was raining! and we[cheez, wendy, n i] always eventually get tricked into taking a cab down to sdba, and upon reaching, the rain stops. how infrurating. actually i dun really recall the things tt we did during water trg, like exactly how many sets we did, etc. i do know tt i dun seem to get the hint when pple say like, '淋雨会生什么病啊?' heh. ok as mentioned, this camp brought out the darker side of me. reliving the nc days, the horns just grew out. yah i'm such a devil and i wont deny it.
aft the 1st water session we went to kallang coffee shop to have lunch. and aft nua-ing for a while we hit the waters again for e next session. went to have a quick shower, dinner-ed and then we left for shaw house for the movie screening CARS. 'Focus. I am speed.' hahahaha it was a damn nice show la. of course there's many lessons to be learnt. I believe its tt u really cannot function as an individual 1-man show. 1 has to learn humility n realise tt in order to win, u have to rely on others as well. And also, the definition of winning is a matter of how u look at it.
checked in only at bout 1am. *big yawns* pple who knows me well wld know tt i nd at least 6hrs of sleep. but, wad to do? this is a trg camp, not supposed to feel comfortable. slept aft talking a while to my roomie, zeeway. tt is aft laughing at her for an unexpected action, which she denied doing. insider's joke. heh
day 2
i think many hope n pray for rain on trg days. some rejoiced tt it rained this morning, but i thought otherwise. when i was in yr 1, i always prayed for gd weather esp during land trgs. that was aft having been thru 1 trg when it was raining. oh gosh, at the end of tt trg i really saluted nus for having to be built on a hill. it was like, steps steps n more steps la! Oh and the dreaded C word. C for Circuits. Ok, i cld sense many pple cursing me, n tt my life is no doubt being shortened by this. Think i am No. 1 on the Most Hated List.
'Cindy, I really really hate u..'
Went to YIH for a healthy n wholesome breakfast. Wholemeal bread with egg mayo n tuna. den proceeded for mental trg. arghhhh. i really dun like it..i dun like to be seen crying. blame it on the face thing, or the pride thing, wadever. it's not a matter of putting a brave front, or associating crying as a sign of weakness. It's just that i dun like to cry in front of so many people! I prefer to do it at the comforts of my own home, withdraw to the comforts of my own bedroom. But today, i just like, let it go and really cried. *plays music at background: why must the sun keep on shining..*
sight, smell, taste, touch, hearing. EMOTION. damn it.
somehow along the way, i think its not just me, but many of us get a disillusioned and we actually forget why we started rowing in the very first place. What is it? Why did i join in the very first place? Ha rite ok i was tricked into joining, but smth made me stay. smth compelling enuf. a pacing set with the alumni team. the feeling of rowing together..all paddles enter at the same time.
i cried so hard, i almost choked.
then we went for water trg. the sets were indeed getting better. i havent seen sir smile for a very long time. today he smiled and i remembered him saying, as he watched the other boat, 'they have finally got it', though the initial sets werent too gd. i guess we cannot afford to have amnesia, but to always capture the great feeling, wad it means to row a great set, and anchor it firmly in our minds, our hearts.
lunched at beach rd. yah ate my usual order. came back, den aft a short rest coach asked me to get 6 pple down to row with the guys, so i got yc angela theresa sharon geoks n myself, while the others got ready for our gals trg. did like a few 500m sets, n 250m sets, and den swapped ard. almost everyone sat out for some sets. went back NUS n had dinner, aft a LONG wait. urgh. irritated. bathed n had a debrief session at mpsh4. Like how often do we talk till 12+? it was really special to have everyone speak their minds n i guess its one of those heart-to-heart kinda debrief. at least tt's wad i felt. we've got so much to give. n like, u think u r tired, but u r not. and u think its ur limit but u nd to cross ur limits b4 u noe its really ur limits. settled on our goal as well.
walked back to RH with my roomie and i was tellg her bout my notorious past in db. how blur i was as a junior, how i got zhua-ed n how they r fortunate to see e nicer side of bc. not the scary version. i'm slowly opening up to others.
Day 3
today we conquered the legendary Kent Ridge Slope. i psyched myself b4 this camp to be prepared to get cursed n condemned. serene did tell me b4 how she hated herself for planning shiong trg program. it was tt kinda hate i felt for myself as well? Anyway, we came, we ran, we conquered. Not after really crawling up at grandmother's pace when the slope was too steep. even cars have problem gg up, wad more human? really felt my heart thumping hard on my chest. it was damn chuan, but it was worth it.
the reward: 爱心早餐.
ha tts wad i call it. i planned for the yummy-licious breakfast set, which consisted of toasted bread spread with butter n jam, half boiled eggs, and a hot drink.
its commendable effort by everyone who endured thru the tortourous run, and jaw-dropping slope. we went to sdba aft tt for trg. only came back to RH at abt 415pm, took a bath, did check out procedere for the gals, den headed down to SRC Conference Room for a major debrief and break camp. i'd let the pictures speak for itself. once i get the pictures n considering i'm not tt lazy to upload.
at the end of the camp, i think many become experts in their 3 times table. or in 007. or classifying controllables vs uncontrollables. or our theme song, 'the end of the world' :]
