OCBC Dragons
Today is a special day. well at least tts how i feel. Or choose to feel.
Reason being that i've decided, aft 2 yrs of 'retirement', tt my heart is ready. And open.
I went for the Land trg held at Kallang track (near the netball centre. Trg time was 730pm.
Believe me i had pre training anxiety!
As i was off today, i drove down frm home. at 7pm, my heart was beating unusually fast. i cannot ascertain if its 1)the getting-to-know-u (going for trg alone for the 1st time really is intimidating..) or 2)the build up anticipation of what's in store for trg, tt got my heart racing.
I am not kidding.
anw, does anyone know wad is my coping mechanism when i have pre- trg anxiety? the answer is..i eat! i bought a butter sugar bread roll, and a vitasoy to consume while driving.
hmm..guess wad time i reached? 745pm. no thanks to the traffic condition, and having to find the place for the 1st time. (ok i bet u r thinking..EXCUSES) thankfully..things are much different when u r in a corporate team. hee no punishment :p
well obviously i looked very lost. i walked apprehensively to a grp of pple who were at the side of the track. they looked like my future team mates. hahahaha. nah, i saw tiz guy whom we used to label as the 'uglier' version of sean. his name is han loon (i think..) and he's our coach. he's a nice guy lah.
there were the friendly ones like may(?) and doreen who intro-ed themselves. next thing the coach asked me to run 6 rds at my own leisure pace.
er...ok.
which i did.
aft which, we were told to do fartlek. 6 x 400m. aft each rd, do 20 push ups n 20 crunches. break 3min. den go again.
Oh..my..gawd.
ok, my plan was this. to stay under the radar. to not let anyone know my rowing history. put simply, i dun want to be labeled.. i dun like the 'wah..u row in xxx team for x yrs..muz b damn zai rite?' sorta stuff.
to cut the story short, i think my 'identity' was exposed when someone asked, 'have u rowed before?' and i dun quite like to lie, so i said 'yea..' and u noe wad qn comes next la huh.
'which team did u row with?'
i wld like to continue further but the post is getting really lengthy. i have 2 take-aways frm today's trg which i felt was kinda memorable.
Memorable incident No. 1:
Before we ran the 3rd lap of the fartlek, May said smtg to spur us on. She said smtg along the line of, "hey..rmb our Gold medal (for inter corporate women) during June race?" and the coach said, "yah tt is past glory..u shd be workin towards attaining the next one."
Somehow what they said became very significant to me. In their minds, they were probably thinking of the Gold they got for Inter Corporate Womens.
For myself, it was a different Gold.
Different Year. Different Event. Different Category.
(2006 vs 2009). (River Regatta vs June Race).(IVP Womens vs Inter Corporate Womens)
Same satisfaction. Same goal. Same smile.
Memorable Incident No. 2:
Doreen (who also rows for Safra) was tryin to integrate me into the team, making feel at ease. She said, "u noe, for us..we train hard. we row hard. we also lim (booze) very hard."
i say..welcome to the corporate world :]
