Breakfast at McDonald's

got tiz from my church bulletin..enjoy~

The last project for my Sociology class before we graduate is called "Smile". We had to go out and smile at 3 pple and document their reactions. I am a very friendly person and always smile at everone and say hello anyway, so i thot tiz wld be a piece of cake, literally. Soon aft we were assigned to the project, my husband, youngest son, and i went out to McDonald's one morning for breakfast.

We were standing in line, waiting to be served, when all of a sudden everyone ard began to back away, n den even my husband did. i did not move an inch..an overwhelming feeling of panic welled up inside of me as i turned to c y they had moved. As i turned ard i smelled a horrible 'dirty body' smell, n there standing behind me were 2 poor homeless men. As i looked down at the short gentleman close to me, he was "smiling". His beautifyl sky-blue eyes were full of God's light as he searched for acceptance. He said, "Gd day" as he counted the few coins he had been clutching. e 2nd man fumbled with his hands as he stood behind his fren. I realised e 2nd man was mentally challenged n e blue-eyed gentleman was his salvation. i held my tears as i stood there wif them.

e young lady at the counter asked him what they wanted. He said, "Coffee is all, Miss" becoz tt was all they cld afford. (if they wanted to sit in the restaurant n warm up, they had to buy smtg). He juz wanted to b warm.

Then i really felt it--the compulsion was so great i almost reached out and embrace e little man with blue eyes. That is when i noticed all eyes in the restaurant were set on me, judging my every action. I smiled and asked the young lady behind the counter to give me 2 more breakfast meals on a separate tray.

I then walked ard the corner to the table tt e man had chosen as a resting spot. i put the tray on the table and laid my hand on the blue-eyed gentleman's cold hand. He looked up at me, with tears in his eyes, and said, "thank u". I leaned over, began to pat his hand n said, "i did not do this for u. God is here working thru me to give u hope." I started to cry as i walked away to join my husband and son. When i sat down my husband smiled at me and said, "tt's y God gave u to me..to give me hope." We held hands for a moment n at tt time, we knew tt only becoz of the Grace tt we had been given, were we able to give.

tt day showed me the pure light of God's sweet love. I returned to college on the last evening of class, with tiz story in hand. i turned in 'my project' n the instructor read it. then she looked up at me n said, 'Can i share tiz?' I slowly nodded as she got the attention of e class.

She began to read n tt is when i knew tt we as human beings n being part of God share tiz nd to heal pple n to b healed. In my own way i had touched e pple at McDonald's: my husband, son, instructor, n every soul tt shared e clsasroom on the last night i sent as a college student. I graduated wif one of e biggest lesson i wld ever learn: unconditional acceptance

Love pple n use things; not love things n use pple.

i cant believe i cried when i read it.

i was left very perturbed, and juz awfully sad when trg ended today.

it was as if a dementa came abt and gave the dreaded 'kiss'-- at the same time sucked all forms of happiness out from my body, leaving behind a souless, grief-striken body.

blessing in disguise? maybe. i wouldn't rule out tt possibility. at least i got to experience wad it's like to be on e 2 boats. how it is like to row, to feel, in e different boats.

but cldnt help but feel v helpless, and extremely 心酸 at the end when we got out of the boats. wt came n asked, 'so, how was it?' n i said..'i felt like a dementa came and sucked all my happiness away'

知道了又有什么用?若知道却没实际行动,倒不如不知道算了

我难过的是 。。忍住悲哀。

i'm only allowing myself to watch a maximum of 2 episodes of 花样少年少女 a day. if not i'll be addicted n now's not the time to have my priorities screwed, esp when the mid term tests are lining up.

the show's dammmn hilarious! can relate well to it also coz juz like MVP 情人, there's sports involved. i particularly like tiz quote:

只要努力就有收获,剩下的就是要相信自己的力量

ok though i disagree on some parts abt how if u put in effort u'd definitely reap positive outcomes. not ncessarily so. but anyhow, its pretty meaningful. the rest is really believing in yourself.

it's bedtime.

hello everyone i'm back!

erm, not tt i went anywhere.

but anywat..hello!

ok diz is abit schizophrenic i muz say.

chinese new yr is getting more n more boring as e yrs go by. sometimes i'd rather choose to stay home instead of go visiting. i only really get to talk more to my brother during cny, coz we both wld not b mingling wif our cousins but instead find solace in each other. how ironic.

on tues b4 we went to my grandma's place to visit, there was so much tension build up at home tt it was unbearable. cant believe my brother actually left home w/o taking me along. the atmosphere was so tense over 2 dishes--glutonous rice n green bean soup. tts coz my mum was cooking n dad offered to help but apparently u noe how adults sometimes disagree over stuff.

to cut the story short, the atmosphere was pretty tense on 初二 。 mind u, its only the 2nd day of lunar new yr n they were bickering over..糯米饭 and 绿豆汤. yah like seriously..

so my brother happily took the opportunity to make a quick exit when his gf called him to her place, leaving me n poor sunny behind at home, where none of us dared to get in the way. i stayed in my room, while sunny in the living room. the kitchen was the last place we wanted to step into.

thankfully things kinda cleared up n we went to grandma's house for visiting. my brother, tsk.. 靠不住 leh.

ran wif rang at nite. juz felt damn bored so i msg-ed her n den we kinda 'stride' throughout the run. been quite a while since we ran, but nonetheless i always look forward to the chill-out part at e end of the run. we'd buy isotonic drinks frm 7-11 den hang out n juz talk crap. felt damn shiok aft e run; pace was not v fast but the strides were damn big.

have been watching quite alot of tv these few days. i feel 花样少年少女 can very well b the next taiwan 偶像剧 tt i'm addicted to. e 1st being MVP情人. the show is soo damn funny, yet sooo sweet. i'm such a loser aka sucker for 偶像剧. e show's abt ella, who plays tiz girl dressed as a guy, manages to successfully study in an all-boys sch n bunk in wif tiz guy tt she's infatuated with.

its damn comical with all the confusion gg on, esp how diz guy in 'his' clique of frens like 'him', but knows he cant like 'him' coz tt makes him a gay. he shdnt be having such feelings for her, but somehow he just has.

also how ella (frm S.H.E) has to act man, but often her feminine side reveals itself unconsciously. den e next moment she'd act man by lowering her voice, n say, '没有啊,我很man, 很帅, 很有魅力..' and tts when i burst out laughing coz she's obviously trying so hard la.

its like the show 'she's the man'..damn hilarious.

as for the ending, i dunno? i might b buying the vcd. considering how many episodes i'd be missing coz it clashes wif trg time n stuff.

its bedtime.

wad we do on e bus

not in e mood to type wordy entries.

here's a sneak peak at wad we do on e bus on our way to trgs.

Sleep

Study

Eat

Plug in, or sing

discuss trg matters

just b ginna ;]

there u have it..e various things we do on the bus to pass time. e bus ride can b v long, esp since its e peak hrs n the traffic jam is really bad.

vday

i've been bz, really pressed for time such tt i didnt have time to update. here's some pics of vday, or in wenya's words its single's day.

had lunch in sci-ence with twin and vic. e food there is still really yummy. a pity i dint have much appetite to down a waffle aft my jap food. it was abit paiseh carrying the rose ard. diaoz

me, twin n vic.

aft class ended at 6, a few of us went holland v crystal jade to celebrate vday cum cherylene's bdae. as usual, i snapped some pics while they werent aware. unposed shots r actually e nicest ;]

bdae gal

angela n raine

me cherylene jo lijun angela raine karine wenting yirang
following tt we proceeded to coffee club to chill. it was exactly wad i did 1 wk ago, when we celebrated wenya's bdae. but anw, i still enjoyed myself nonetheless. a pity i didnt take a pic of the muddy mud pie. there was a unanimous 'woahhhhh' when our muddy mud pie was served. it was humoungous, a very generous portion. sooo gd. yummy! also shared a chocolate fondue. crapped and laughed alot over dessert. chilling @coffee club is definitely a cheaper, less smoky, (n healthier?) alternative compared to pubbing.

played the name game n the loser had to drink 1/2 cup of h20. hahaha at the end of 12 games, wt n angela's bladder were quite full. heh

got tiz from ky's blog.

my sentiments exactly. those were e days ;]

many years ago..while i was still in my teens, back in crescent, i rem this day when we celebrate valentine's day..at this point of the time..everyone most probably will be bz preparing presents for the other crescentians...itz a very forward looking day to me as on this special day u'll definitely get surprises..n all sorts of surprises...

sweets appearing on ur table when u reach sch early in the morning..n even flowers...not rose but orchids..blue orchids...or soap flowers with a teddy bear hugging it...n of cos not forgeting the hugs frm everyone, anyone...itz such occasion dat hugs are even more swt n purposeful...n if ur lucky enuf to have crazy mad gfs...u'll get a peck on the cheek too...the one i got frm toreen is definitely something i wun ever forget..that shocking weird kiss =\ hahahahaha

so even u dun have a gf or bf den =p nobody is lonely...cos valentine's day is frenship day too...everyone is loved in one way or another..of cos in the friendly way...n when unexpected wishes comes frm pple ur not really close with...u realised that u actually stand a place in their hearts n ur actually being noticed by them...u cun help but feel special....

ps: the above may sound les to some pple reading this post...but thatz definitely the happening part being in a girls' sch n which not everyone will get to experience it...crescent rox when i was still back there~!

happy valentine's day to u pple out there

this is as depresing as it sounds.

i think age is getting the better of me. went for reunion dinner juz now and i realise reality is juz setting in w/o us knowing. it has caught us unaware. 1 of my cousin's getting married tiz yr. then there were jokes tt my brother n his gf will be next.

hahah somehow reality juz struck tt i'm getting on my ages. i'm currently not in a relationship, n the way i'm gg, i forsee that i'd proabbly b left on the shelf. but somehow i think i'd be fine wif it.

still, nostalgia is setting in. i miss those times when my cousins n us were still kids n small. during reunion dinners we'd juz run out and play, coming back to our tables only when the food is served. orange juice was a must.

and now, i cant hold a conversation wif them. arghh. i'm so bad with words, i juz sit and sip my chrysemthmum tea. and as i sip my tea, tiz song keeps playing in my head: 菊花台

Each time i drank from the cup, i sang:

菊花残, 满地伤 你的笑容已泛黄 花落人断肠, 我心事静静躺
北风乱,夜未央 你的影子剪不断 徒留我孤单在湖面成双

if there's 1 thing i admire abt myself, i feel its tt i can 苦中作乐 and juz laugh things off, though sometimes its black humor.

maybe i have a secretly depressive nature but somehow manage to deal with it.

recently i'm struck wif a bit of emptiness in my prayer life. i'm running low on faith and i juz dunno y? its juz so raw inside, i'm no longer driven to pray, yet somehow i still keep praying. i dun wanna lose it all altogether. i juz need it to come back, but now, its juz a souless body. maybe a dementa (dunno how to spell) came by and sucked my soul with all forms of happiness away. Maybe i shd learn the 'expecto petronum' spell so as to keep the dementa at bay.

ytd i went shopping wif wt n i was damn surprised tt she knows how to sing 'the power of ur love'

Lord I come to You
Let my heart be changed, renewed
Flowing from the grace
That I found in You.
And Lord I've come to know
The weaknesses I see in me
Will be stripped away
By the power of Your love.

Hold me close
Let Your love surround me
Bring me near
Draw me to Your side.
And as I wait
I'll rise up like the eagle
And I will soar with You
Your Spirit leads me on
In the power of Your love.

too bad wt dun read blogs. but anw if u happen to chance upon diz, roomie i'm damn surprised ok? anw i said it to her on e spot when we were shopping. 'omg wt, u know how to sing diz song!?' of which she answerered, 'yah, its one of the more popular christian songs'

like wow. well for those who dunno, wt is like, e last person who believes tt a God exists. Any God for tt matter. yet she knew the lyrics to tiz song..

as i was rowing the mileage set today, i thought abt game theory.

no, i dint let my mind drift, but wad i felt was that Prisonner's Dilemma actually happens in reality.

For those who dun understand, its ok. Dun read further, i'd juz bore u.

Anyway, point is, the best outcome is if both boats don't retaliate. However, the reverse occured, ie both retaliate. Nash Equilibrium (both retaliate) occurs becoz it is the outcome given that u've considered ur opponent's move. No one will profitably deviate from such a strategy.

When sir asked both boats to stay close, the best outcome for all wld have been: (Dont retaliate, dont retaliate). However, due to Prisonner's Dilemma, a Nash Equilibrium situation occured: (retaliate, retaliate)

Retaliate= push 10
Don't retaliate= row as per normal

Somehow at the end of the set i was left wondering who we were really competing against. And if it was indeed worthwhile retaliating coz when an up 10 is called, u juz do it w/o questioning.

1stly, by retaliating, 1 boat will always be behind the other. 2ndly, retaliation almost always lead to the following scenario:

两败俱伤

or??

i'm confused. maybe i shdn't think too much. or shd i say, too deep.

worth considering

found tiz in my econs reading..rather interesting!

Punctuality may be 'simply an equilibrium response of individuals to what they expect others to do' and tt e same society cld benefit frm a 'punctual equilibrium' or get caught in a lateness eqm.

Estimates suggested Ecuador lost btn 4% to 10% of its GDP due to chronic illness. The c'try has launched a campaign against lateness. The result is a test of the idea that a society can consciously switch frm a bad to a gd eqm thru a change in expectations.

The campaign was a timely one. A newspaper is publishing a list each day of officials who are late for public events. A popular poster for the campaign against lateness describes the disease and says, 'Treatment: Inject urself each morning with a dose of responsibility, respect and discipline. Recommendation: Plan, organise activities and repair ur watches.' A popular notice for meeting rooms in the style of hotel 'Do Not Disturb' signs has been making the rounds. On one side it says "Come in: You're on time." When the meeting begins at its scheduled time, it is turned ard to the other side, which reads, "Do not enter: The meeting began on time."

If a social movement to change expectations abt punctuality can be made to work, smtg similar might be tried ard the world for fixing more pernicoious probs, such as public corruption.

Sounds v familiar hor? Psst zw..shd really consider that.

went for surf and sweat today n guess who i saw?

lipin..i saw ur lirong. hahaha rmb LPLLR~?

went to talk to her and find out how she is now, aft 5min lookin at her backview n wondering if it was really her.

me: wow, u lost a lot of weight.
lirong: u look different. hey u bulk up alot eh?

ahhhhhh

:[

i'm so upset. not wif her la, she was juz being honest. i dun wanna bulk up..

i got my period today. it's times like these tt i really hate being a woman. u noe y girls tend to b more emotional during tt time of the mth? on e train ride back wif rang, i was tearing. not bcoz i was emotional, but e pain was simply unbearable.

observations

1st random observation: kids these days r really terrified of dogs.

i dun mean those big fierce german shepherd kind, i mean tame n mild dogs like sunny. -_-^ i feel sorry for them. wad else r they gonna be scared of in future? ants, snails, their shadow maybe??

sunny is so small, he doesnt even attack pple. he's juz a very inquisitive dog who sniffs ard, he doesnt even bark. yet kids run away or scream in fright upon seeing him. like seriously..

i like sprintin wif sunny. he cld very well be the best 'person' to help me in my sprints, smtg which i really suck at. anerobic is wad i suck badly in. wif him, i do fartleks. walk..run..walk. so far he hasn't overtaken me yet, tt's coz his stretch is shorter than my stride. wahahaha wad a cheaterbug i am.

2nd observation: old ladies on mrt trains

i get very pissed off with them. i hate it when they push n shove like i'm made of glass. they simply juz ram into me as if i dun even exist! i'm frustrated n seriously pissed off alright? do NOT intrude into my personal space, aka comfort zone. i appreciate tt u step aside, thank you very much. there's so much space for them to pass, yet they want to brush past, or shd i say ram into me to take the nearest dash to their seat. they make it seem like i'm gonna fight wif them for a seat. Thing is, no1 is gonna steal the seat frm them la, wad the hell!? U noe wad really amazes me? how they seem to b able to RUN upon seeing an empty seat. i'm not kidding. Some of the elderly folks r nice pple, but others simply irk me. do not be inconsiderate ok? just becoz we r younger n stronger, doesnt mean u push us as u wish. I do respect the elders, but with these inconsiderate elderly ard, it makes me withdraw the respect n high esteem i once had for them.

3rd observation: We tend to underperform during time trials.

be it nervousness, or blindly adhering to expectations that we throw everything else out the window, or...i dunno?

i wished i knew.

no, i dun juz wish i knew. instead i wished i knew, and then devised smtg to prevent it from happening. but if i cld do tt, den wouldn't i be God?

4th observation: As u grow older, u get less affected.

Wenya n i recounted how we used to get really affected aft our time trials results in yr1. affected meaning damn emotional abt it n stuff. not forgetting the sweaty palms n jitters that came at 1815hrs, @src squash court. nightmare man..

these days i still get affected, but not so much as b4. i still get annoyed with myself at times, coz i expect more frm myself den frm others. but i've come to terms wif the fact tt my body is not as agile as it was b4, there's not so much 'burst'. sadly, i cant do an <1.40 min for 400m now, like i did back in yr1. i probably can go <2min but b left wif plenty of pants n wheezing. pathetic eh? i talk as if i'm very old. no la, im not tt old but the fact is tt my body is no longer at its peak.

actually i take things in my stride these days. there's a difference btn accepting reality and laid back attitude . juz as it is for confidence n complacency. anyhow, i still believe that 'u r only as strong as ur weakest link' and no1 wants to b tt weakest link.

time trials nv fail to b a gd wake up call. at the same time, there's actually so much more it than meets e eye.

i'm thankful i keep a diary. someday when i flip back the pages, i'd b proud of myself for having done things tt i once thought was impossible.
